About

Led by French director and translator Philomène Cheynet, Mythography is a cross-cultural collective of emerging theatre-makers based in Edinburgh.

"A strikingly talented group of young people"

 — Plays International and Europe

Mythography amplifies young voices through bold reimaginings of myths, building bridges between languages, cultures, and eras to challenge the limits of our world. Through wild rewritings and new translations, we claim these stories as ours, allowing them to rip through time and place to reach audiences here and now.

Our previous work includes our ‘Triptych of the Young Girl’, made up of Ondine (2022), Salomé (2023) and Antigone (2024/25), a three-part journey through myth in search of the dangerous and elusive figure of the young girl. All three shows played to sold out audiences during their respective Edinburgh Fringes and received exceptional critical praise.

I strive to create work that inspires wonder, provokes thought and feeling, and challenges the status quo. Work that is raw, irreverent and adventurous. I have worked with some wonderful artists along the way and cannot wait to see where we go next.
 —  Philomene Cheynet, Creative Director
