Closing off to new donations
Published on March 22, 2026 by Dhinak G

Hello everyone,

In June 2025, Apple announced at WWDC25 that macOS Tahoe would be the last release for Intel Macs. Since then, we have known that Tahoe would be the last frontier for the legacy Macs that we have been supporting since Big Sur.

Since the project's future after Tahoe is uncertain, as we do not know if any Apple silicon Macs will become unsupported anytime soon, and if they are, whether developing a patcher is feasible, we have decided to stop taking new donations and cancel any recurring donations at this time. We will also refund any donations made in the last 30 days (the most our platform allows us to do).

We are still working on Tahoe support, but with multiple developers having left the team, development progress has become much slower and more perilous than before. Please remember that OpenCore Legacy Patcher is a hobby project developed by volunteers in their spare time, and our daily lives come first. We are trying our best, but Tahoe has brought significant changes (especially with recent updates), and with fewer developers and less time, we cannot commit to an OCLP update for Tahoe.

Thank you,
The OpenCore Legacy Patcher team

Thank you for your honnest words. I fully understand that Tahoe support is unlikely to fully work which unfortunately will make OCLP more and more obsolete in future.

OCLP was an amazing project that helped me to use my old iMacs for additional 7 years with current MacOS versions (and soon with Linux). Thank you for your great work!

The patchers kept my 2013 and my 2014 27 inch IMAX working far past their due date and a time when the finances were too tight, for that I will be eternally grateful, I will find another way to make a donation now that funds have improved dramatically

Thank you (all) for keeping older computers relevant as long as you have.  I'll miss looking for the next great update.

on

Thank you for everything you've done so far!

Thank you for all your support. It's amazing what the OCLP team was able to do.
I think most of us saw this coming, I'm said to say.
I was hoping you guys might be able to move into supporting the "M" series of chips as the M1 Macs will be reaching EOL next year I'm guessing.

You saved me 2 Years of being able to use my MacBook Pro from 2010. Now I say Goodby Apple, welcome Linux!
You Made a unbelivable good job Thank you very much.

Thank you for all the great work. I for one would feel better if I could resume my donation for as long as I still have an OCLP mac!

Please accept my thanks to all of the team for enabling me to keep a MacBook and an iMac running for a neighbor for a couple of years.  And it was fun to be able to do it.

on

I just want to sincerely thank everyone on the OpenCore Legacy Patcher dev team for the incredible work you put in. Because of your time, skill and dedication, many of us can keep our older (and very expensive!) machines running far longer than Apple ever intended.
What you do for this community is truly appreciated, and I know I’m not the only one who’s grateful for the effort you continue to put into this project. Thank you all again!

Many thanks to the OpenCore Legacy Patcher team for your impressive work.  I'm glad I got my donation in much before this decision.  You have helped me keep several devices alive and out of the landfill.  I really appreciate what you have done.

The OpenCore Legacy Patcher team has been instrumental in helping me (and of course, countless others) to let several Apple computers live functionally for much longer than Apple deemed adequate. Words can't express how grateful I am because of your work, passion, dedication, and brains.

Allowing me to eek more life out of my Pixlas-modded 12-core 3.46GHz 5,1 Mac Pro monster allowed me to use it until I was able to save for a loaded M1 16-inch MacBook Pro Max that has since become my daily driver.

I'm not sure I will be able to get rid of my Mac Pro. Although I only used it for a few years, those years were productive because of OpenCore Legacy Patcher. So thank you once again for everything you've done.

on

For what it's worth: many thanks from another user to you guys and your work which had/has a tremendous impact for users with old / very old Macs.

For a while, I specifically bought older Macs on eBay to use as second or third computers, or to give them to my parents. With OCLP those Macs had a few more good years!

As others wrote above me: consider opening a final "thank you" link for donation!

Because of your incredible work, I am still using a 2012 i7 16GB Mac Mini on Sequioia with almost no issues.

Who knows, maybe it will even stretch to 2032? Now wouldn’t that that be something! 😀

I wish you all the very best of luck.

Truly amazing to have a 13 year old laptop cooking with Davinci Resolve and all sorts of other fun. I will resume my subscription as soon as the project is back on. Good luck to you!

thank you OCLP

I too want to thanks you for your efforts at keeping older macs working.

Looks like it is time to abandon mac given their corporate ethics and strategies.
It was good while it lasted.

Being able to use my iMac from 2013 was amazing! The Dev team did a wonderful job and I'm extremely grateful. If you're able to find a path forward with the new architecture, that would be spectacular but I can only imagine the hurdles. Thank you!!!

My most sincere and heartfelt thanks for your team’s efforts and dedication to a pastime “job”, creating something that benefits thousands of Mac owners for so long. Your manner of exit is honest and truly honorable. Words cannot fully express my admiration for this group of tinkerers, programmers, who dug deep into the confusing mess of Apple codes to engineer a solution to make old hardware work as well as new (which, incidentally, is also testament to how well Apple designed and its contractors built them).
Perhaps, in time to come, there will be a need for a M?-chip version of OpenCore patcher, when the current iterations get too old for Apple to support them. Until then, bye to all you good people, and keep yourselves well!

It's too bad Tahoe support couldn't have been all sorted out before too many devs moved on.  But understandable -- as a Linux user since 1993, and a programmer, including some kernel programming... OCLP is an extraordinarily complex piece of work, and Tahoe has both made a lot of changes (largely dropping drivers) while simultaneously continuing the trend in macOS of tightening up security (making patching things back in that much more difficult.)  The additional security of the T2 chip means OCLP will probably not run on the last few models of Intel systems; and it's unlikely any of it will apply to ARM models.  Given that, it's understandable why some devs have moved on, this is a huge amount of work to enable one macOS version knowing that hard work will not apply to any future versions.

Thank you for all the hard work!  And I must add, it would have been real easy to just let donations keep rolling in, it's truly a class act to stop them when you have.

Thank you for everything. You kept my 2014 11 inch MacBook Air going for years past the expiration date.  I wish the best for you, but I also haven't given up hope yet!

on

I felt like I needed to take a second to say thank you for all of the hard work y'all put in over the last few years to keep so many perfectly good machines out of the landfill. I have proudly rocked my 2011 iMac for YEARS because of the dedication this team has had to OpenCore. I've learned so much about software and had to challenge myself and learn by trial and error and it's not lost on me that I never would've bothered nor been inspired to learn had it not been for this project and the clever hacks it took to upgrade every piece of my iMac.  You all deserve so much more credit and praise than you've gotten over the years. Thank you for everything guys - this feels like the end of an era to put it lightly, but I'll always be a fan.

on

You amazing group of people! I can't thank you guys enough for the hard work, effort and love you've put into this project for so many years. The impact of being able to keep using all of this Apple hardware for years longer is really an amazing contribution to our world. Thank you thank you thank you in the name of all of humanity!

on

Thanks for all your help in the past.

on

Thank you very much for everything you’ve done so far.

And if you’d be interested in beta testing OCLP on my iMac11,2 (21.5" Mid 2010), please don’t hesitate to reach out!

on

Dear Dhinak G and OC team,
is it still possible to support you with little donations? At least until the last days of OC.

Thank you for your awesome work and the fight against obsolescence (by software). ♥︎

on

Incredible, what you've done! Will continue to use Sequoia for some time more, then we'll see. But It's been a tremendous gift to all of us!

on

Thank you for your tireless work and your amazing help in keeping our old Macs alive. OCLP was and is a truly impressive project, built with so much passion and heart and soul. Let's see if and where the journey goes from here ...

on

on

Dear OCLP team,

thank you so much for your great work! You helped me to substantially prolong the life of my 2012 27“ iMac. You can be proud of your achievements and deserve deep respect, last but not least for timely  announcing the end of the project and proactively canceling contribution plans.

Best wishes for your future careers, sincerely
Joachim

My sincere thanks for your collective efforts, what a team!

I'd still like to donate again, anyway. Is there a one-off option to do that?

Have yet to upgrade my MP 5,1 to Sequoia, so that's yet to come, and will be using OCLP for awhile beyond that, and this has been an amazing project and service, so please let us know how we can donate, at least on a one-off basis.

Thanks, Jim

on

No one really wants Tahoe anyway. Thank you for your work so far.

on

Terribly depressing news, even though deep down I’ve been expecting it for months. Still, it feels right to thank the OCLP Team for their hard and truly extraordinary work. I’ve been using Hackintoshes since the days of OS X Leopard, and thanks to OCLP I even have Wi‑Fi working under Sequoia today. My old early‑2015 MacBook Air has also been happily running Sequoia recently thanks to OCLP. This is all because of you, dear OCLP creators — thank you!

on

I can only say ditto to all the praise noted above.
I too have kept a Macbook Pro late 2016 and a Mac Mini 2014 running and doing their work or allowing me to work via OCLP.

I really don't know how to quantify how much OCLP has saved from going into a landfill and on the reverse side kept $$$ out of the salesman pockets.

I've kept my late 2016 MB Pro running nicely for at least 2-4 years after Apple decided I needed to give them more $$.

As with the Dortania team and others, I am sooner or later going to have to bend over and get a new machine. I'm so hesitant it isn't even funny. However, the forced upgrade that Apple and others have employed bites sooner or later I guess.

Again, THANK YOU volunteers for a great ride and resource!

on

Thanks you all for everything you have done, for the time spent.
In 2006, i began to build hackintoshes, not having enough money to buy a Mac. 8 years ago, i began to rejuvenate iMacs 2011, changing graphics cards.
It seems now we are close to the end of what is possible to hack, but our community was able during 20 years to make work obsolete computers, that's simply fantastic!
