End-of-year "What's Update"
Published on December 21, 2022 by Julia Lowndes

Reflecting on 2022, and following the We have three broad questions from Open Collective:
  1. What did you accomplish during 2022? How did you use money?
  2. What challenges did you face during 2022? What did your Collective learn? How did you change or grow
  3. What are your plans for 2023? Anything exciting coming up?

1. In the second half of 2022 we received our funds from CS&S to Open Collective. We began our planning process soon thereafter, including reaching out to potential partners to invite them to collaborate. Led by Ileana Fenwick of Openscapes in partnership with Black in Marine Science (BIMS) and Black Women in Ecology, Evolution, and Marine Science (BWEEMS), we are planning the Pathways to Open Science series to begin in mid-January 2023. Here is the website: https://openscapes.github.io/pathways-to-open-science/. Ileana has just starting to use the money for planning purposes and will use the vast majority of it in 2023.

2. So far, no challenges as we're getting started. It takes a lot of time for coordinating an event and having open, inclusive communication to invite folks and get the timing and scope of information right so everyone has what they need.

3. Led by Ileana Fenwick of Openscapes in partnership with Black in Marine Science (BIMS) and Black Women in Ecology, Evolution, and Marine Science (BWEEMS), the 6-part Pathways to Open Science series will begin in mid-January 2023! https://openscapes.github.io/pathways-to-open-science/.
