Out-of-the-box IPFS configurations for OrbitDB
Published on January 17, 2024 by Ann-Teresa McLoughlin

In order to facilitate easier peer-to-peer connections and to simplify the on-boarding process for 3rd party developers, OrbitDB is proposing a funding goal of USD 10,000 to finance the development of examples, predetermined configurations and tools for connecting Node.js and browser peers.

OrbitDB's aim is to abstract away the intricacies of IPFS and Libp2p, providing 3rd party developers with a more plug-and-play approach to OrbitDB development.

Developers who are interested in integrating OrbitDB into their decentralized stack can thus focus on developing usable features rather than spend time understanding the internals of bootstrapping, peer discovery, peer-to-peer networking, block storage and other IPFS/Libp2p concepts.

OrbitDB is seeking donations from the community to fund this internal project task. We will use these funds to cover the costs of developing tools, configurations and/or documentation and liaising with other parties (in particular Helia and Libp2p core developers) to determine the optimal methods for connecting peers across networks.  The funding goal will run for 6 weeks, ending on the 29th February 2024.
