Announcing the People-in-Need Institute
Published on February 8, 2024 by Calvin Ho

Dear donors,

We have an opportunity to expand our ministry to include an Afternoon School in Zahle called the People-in-Need Institute to provide education to ~90 Syrian and Lebanese children who are not schooled.

As many of you know, the lack of governmental services in Lebanon is worsened by the recent Israel’s war in Gaza. Many foreign NGO workers/missionaries have left Lebanon for safety reasons. As a result of their departure, the Korean missionary’s school, where Fady has been teaching at since 2021 together with 5 other teachers, is closing down and all the teachers and students being let go this month. After much discernment and prayers, we decided to step in to launch a new school so we can continue to offer schooling to the Syrian and Lebanese children and keep the teachers employed.

We have already secured classrooms through an agreement with the Syriac Orthodox Church of Baalbeck and Zahle, where we had our food distribution ministry. They agree to let us use the church facility as classrooms. You can read more about the plan for this new school by reading Fady’s appeal letter here: https://people-need.org/resources/articles/vision-for-2024

We have a proposed monthly budget of US$2000. We want to invite you to consider supporting us at the $50/month level (sponsoring a student) and at $250/month level (sponsoring a teacher), with the goal of having ~15 - 25 donors to pledge their desire to support the ministry of our institute. So far we have 3 pledged monthly donors and need 12 more to go! One-time gift (any amount) is also appreciated to help us with the purchase of miscellaneous items for this new school.

Lastly, we have switched our giving platform from OpenCollectives to the Christian Ministry Alliance, a US-registered 501c3 charitable organization. They provide accounting and donor services and will issue to you giving statements and receipts for your tax-deduction purposes. The donation will then be remitted by CMA to Fady in Lebanon via Western Union. They accept check, debit/credit card, ACH, stock, and donor-adviced fund gifts.
