About

Phoenix AKA Mohawk (they/them) is an intersectional harm reduction educator & advocate for people who use drugs (PWUD) that has provided in-person peer support services and online education and resources for over 10 years. They are the former President of New York DanceSafe, Inc., and Digital Communications and Technical Program Manager at NEXT Distro and a technical educational consultant with DanceSafe. They have been a Youth Rise board member for 2 years, registering the organization with an e-residency in Estonia that allows for ease of remote, global operations. They've performed various drug checking operations in 6 countries, including the first of its kind in South Africa.

They have a vested interest in reducing harm for the underserved, marginalized populations that are primarily queer and trans people who use drugs and firmly believe harm or risk reduction is not limited to drug checking or knowing general substance facts.

Harm reduction must be intersectional. Many people don’t see or experience the full consequences of misguided, oppressive drug policy and stigma, and therefor often lead with ineffective solutions. Liberation won't come solely from cannabis and psychedelic regulation, picking and choosing which substances are "medicine" while discarding anyone else who doesn't fit into that paradigm.
