My life as a political activist
Published on August 25, 2021 by Andre Stackhouse
So about a year ago I quit my job as a software engineer at Microsoft. There were a lot of reasons but chief among them was that for all the time, attention, and stress my job required, I basically felt that it made people's lives worse by distracting them with useless information they did not ask for.
Politics was a passion of mine and I tried to help activist causes when I could with a small donation or the limited volunteer time I could spare.
I began to notice that most of these organizations were entirely volunteer run on virtually no budget and that they often needed the exact kind of applied tech skills they could never afford from tech workers like myself.
I decided I had too much to offer causes that actually matter to spend so many of my waking hours working on projects that neither interest me or help others. That is why I decided to create Public Stackhouse - it is a way for me to give my activism freely while allowing those who would like to support it a way to do so financially.
