About
Queer Kinship Coventry is a grassroots community organisation for Black & Global Majority LGBTQ+ people in Coventry and the surrounding areas. It was established in March 2025 by a local Black queer activist, who has now been joined by other likeminded, impassioned individuals who have really brought our group to life.
Our objectives are threefold:
Our objectives are threefold:
- To nurture a community of Black & Global Majority LGBTQ individuals in Coventry, and its surrounding areas.
- To advocate for the legitimacy of the experiences of Black & Global Majority LGBTQ individuals in the wider community, whilst providing support catered to these experiences
- To establish an Organisation that champions mutual aid, collaboration, and togetherness, in service of the community
We aim to do this by organising regular events and gatherings and liaising with members to regularly evaluate the needs of the membership, while advancing the awareness and understanding of issues pertaining to the Black & Global Majority LGBTQ community in Coventry.
At Queer Kinship, we support those who identify under the umbrellas of Black and Global Majority, and LGBTQ+. We recognise that the majority of LGBTQ+ spaces outside of large metropolitan spaces, such as London, Birmingham, and Manchester, do not cater for the intersectional experiences of our members. This can lead to harmful interactions, which prevent community members from re-engaging with in-person community building.
So far, our events have included: evening socials, a spoken word and badge making workshop, and crafty drop-in sessions. In December 2025, we established our monthly coffee social, kinfolk, a friendly, informal community space to meet new people, co-create, exchange knowledge, or just be. We have big plans for the future of Queer Kinship, so watch this space!
