Random Knights is an independent AI research organization. We build open-source tools where three questions meet: how do we hold AI accountable for its impact on the planet, how do we use AI to understand the planet better, and is what we build with AI actually worth it? 

Our main platform is rand0m.ai, a multi-provider AI ecosystem with custom agentic workflows, RAG pipelines, and a live Earth intelligence layer. Its Earth module, xyz-earth, is a real-time animated globe that tracks nine planetary domains: land and forest health, active wildfires, air quality, ocean temperature, ocean acidification, ice and glaciers, biodiversity, conservation coverage, and human pressure. Where established science defines a safe threshold, we anchor the domain to it, drawing on the planetary boundaries framework of Rockström and colleagues  (Stockholm Resilience Centre). The rest we track as contextual signals. Everything rolls up into a single Planet Health Score. 

The globe is fully keyless and open source. Anyone can clone it and run it with no accounts, no private dependencies, and bundled data that works offline. 

We also write open standards for AI accountability. AIEDS, the AI Energy Disclosure Standard, is published under CC BY 4.0. It defines a consistent, provider-agnostic way to disclose the environmental footprint of a single AI interaction. Not a model's average score on a benchmark, but the real energy and carbon behind one response, reported through a clear hierarchy: modeled scientific estimates, operational data, and human equivalencies like Tree-Time. Put the real number in front of people and they can weigh it for themselves: was that response worth what it cost? 

Our view is simple. AI is accelerating the climate crisis at the same time it is becoming one of our best tools for understanding it. Every tool we build and every standard we publish tries to hold that tension honestly, and to keep asking whether the trade is worth making.
