Happy new year and a call to action

Thanks to everyone who donated and shared our January Commissary Fund! We were able to meet our goal this month!! We will once again be raising money for the commissary in March.
In the meantime, we wanted to bring up a very important action you can take part in today!
Currently, there are 200 voices in the RNDC facility on Rikers Island who are on a HUNGER STRIKE! They began striking on Friday and up to now have just missed their 12th meal.
THE WHY: These 200 voices are protesting the horrible conditions of the jail, the absences of officers (they haven't seen anyone on the floor in days), there's no mail, no recreation time, and the staff who is there has not communicated with them at all.
The demands we are asking people to make are below:
Script: "I am calling with concern to the current state of neglect and the ongoing hunger strike happening at the RNDC facility.
There has been an absence of officers who have not been on the floor in days, there's no mail, no recreation time, and the staff who is there has not communicated with them at all.
I demand immediate action to be taken to provide the proper care to the individuals currently incarcerated in your facilities."

In addition, we are demanding the immediate release of all incarcerated individuals, as DOC is unable to keep people alive.
