SF Bay Area Mutual Aid Direct Cash Program
Published on January 19, 2023 by Sarah Cadorette
Hello, neighbors! We have heard from several folks that they cannot receive a direct bank transfer, so we are working to set up a cash assistance program.
This program would allow us to distribute funds to our neighbors across the San Francisco/Bay Area region who are prevented from accessing a bank account due to immigration status, credit history, or any other number of situations.
We would be following the current rules of our financial aid program, which means that we would disperse funds in the order in which we originally received a request, which may have first been through our SFMA website.
We will disburse funds up to $500 per recipient.
This program should ONLY be used by people who do not have access to a bank account. People who have access to a bank account should go through the current request system we already have set up.
Folks should only submit one request. Submitting to the cash assistance program will not mean that you will receive more than $500, or that you will receive funds faster.
We hope to get this program up-and-running soon! If you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to reach out to an organizer.
In Solidarity,
Sarah
