SFMA's 2022 in Review
Published on December 21, 2022 by Sarah Cadorette

Hello friends, neighbors, supporters and allies--

2022 has been a big year for SF Bay Area Mutual Aid! We partnered with Open Collective Foundation as our fiscal sponsor at the tail end of September, and in just a few months, we have:
  • Fulfilled six requests for direct financial assistance! These requests were for assistance with rent, medical expenses, supplementing income after missed work due to COVID, groceries, and essential travel.
  • 43 contributors! 43 people who are giving at different amounts and different frequencies, but who are all contributing to direct financial assistance for folks who urgently need funds to access things like shelter, medical attention, food, and more.
  • We raised a total of $2,988.52, and dispersed $2,747.34 (so far).
At this rate, we will be receiving and redistributing just over $15,400 per year! Our goal is to redistribute $100,000 (or $500 to 2,000 people) directly to our neighbors who could use a boost. Together, we are helping to keep folks housed, fed, and healthy. Thank you endlessly to all who have engaged with us so far, either through this page or through our neighbor-to-neighbor matching program, and here's to a safe and joyous 2023!

In Solidarity,
SFMA

Hello, Chloris! We cannot give you a good estimate on a turnaround time for your request, as it depends entirely on when we receive donations. For more info on the order in which we are approving requests, please see our previous post: https://opencollective.com/sf-bay-area-mutual-aid/updates/a-note-on-how-we-are-approving-requests

Something that is not noted in that post is that we are also first addressing requests from folks who have not received any financial assistance from our group in the past, and then we will be looping back around to folks who have received funds before, in the order in which we initially received their request.

Hope that helps!
Sarah
