News from Silex, and from a more positive web industry
Published on January 30, 2026 by Alex Hoyau

These past weeks have been very active for the Silex project.
Between the new templates workflow, the data-driven canary release, free trainings, and the ongoing work on our funding model, we are laying new foundations for a more sustainable, open, and professional web.

Open source templates for professionals
With Brice Martin, we recently launched a new feature in Silex: “start from a template”.
The workflow is still evolving. Very soon, each template will show
  • its author
  • its license
  • and a way to contribute improvements back

The goal is to make templates real, living open source projects, not just files to download.

Crowdfunding - 4 templates for freelancers and agencies
We are launching a crowdfunding campaign to produce 4 professional templates, designed for
  • freelancers
  • agencies
  • independent studios
These templates aim to help you
  • produce faster
  • stay independent from closed platforms
  • build ethical, durable websites
Crowdfunding allows us to keep these templates free and forkable, instead of turning them into proprietary products.

Free trainings - February and March
To support this transition, we are running free trainings for freelancers, agencies, and no-code devs.
Goals
  • understand static headless architecture
  • produce faster with templates
  • differentiate through open source and ethics
Dynamic headless websites
A new canary version is available
👉 https://canary.silex.me
It brings
  • explicit support for WordPress, Strapi, Supabase, and GraphQL
  • expressions filtered by the selected backend
  • live data preview
  • consistent loops, conditions, and filters
  • improved expressions UI

Silex becomes a much more robust tool for designing headless CMS + static websites.

Why we do not sell templates
We refuse the open core model and software rent.
Collective funding allows us to pay for the work, free the creations, and enable future collaboration.
This is what makes a truly open, collaborative, and sustainable ecosystem possible.
