Smartphone Free Childhood

Founded in February 2024 after one WhatsApp group went viral, Smartphone Free Childhood is now a community of over 350,000 parents standing up for healthier, happier childhoods. 

 
Many parents feel pressured to hand over smartphones too soon, fearing their child will be left out. Through our Parent Pact and nationwide WhatsApp network, families are finding strength in numbers and practical support for raising kids in the digital age – one of the defining parenting challenges of our time.

This fund exists to help power the movement wherever you are. Whether it’s printing posters for a school fair, hiring a village hall for a community talk, or bringing in a brilliant speaker to spark a conversation – we want to make sure cost isn’t a barrier to getting involved.

Here’s how it works:
You can donate to a specific ‘Project’ (that’s your local SFC region) – and the money will be ring-fenced for grassroots activities in your area. That means local fundraising (or even a supportive local business chipping in) can go directly to helping families and schools near you.

Or, you can donate to the UK-wide grassroots movement – and we’ll distribute those funds to support grassroots action wherever they’re most needed.

If you're an SFC leader or school organiser, you can use this fund to claim back reasonable costs for things that help spread the movement: posters, flyers, event spaces, materials. Please check our expenses policy for the details. SFC HQ also uses this fund to claim back expenses from our not-for-profit community resources shop.

Everything is 100% transparent – you can see exactly where every penny goes.

This is a grassroots movement, powered by people.
No big corporations, no hidden backers – just families, friends, teachers, local businesses, neighbours… all coming together to say: there’s a better way.
