About

My name is Sophie Gorton and I am a fashion & Textile designer/maker with over 30 years of experience. I specialise in sustainable textiles and bespoke fashion projects. I have over 15 years teaching experience at UAL (Central St Martins & Chelsea School of Art). I trained as a fine artist and then as a textile screen printer. I have worked in film (printing costumes for Beauty and the Beast) and have had my own fashion label which exhibited at London Fashion Week, selling worldwide.

During lockdown I had a rethink and started working on small community projects, and in November 2024 with the help of Kilburn State of Mind I acquired a small start-up grant from Camden Giving to lead local community textile upcycling workshops.

These workshops have proved a huge success and I am now collaborating with Sidings Community Centre to bring back to life 12 beautiful sewing machines for fashion upcycling and sewing skills workshops.

Donated funds will support the community to gather, make, mend, laugh and learn in safe spaces around London.

ReMake & Mend workshops are free and will provide the following workshop events:
Upcycling textiles: Screen Printing, Make & Mend Coffee Mornings, Sewing Machine Skills, Remaking Fashion, Christmas Jumper Workshops, Children’s Upcycle Workshops.

Any contributions will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks
Sophie Gorton
