About

Sophie Buysse is the founder of DebateVille, a fun and exciting afterschool debating activity that helps teenagers from vulnerable neighborhoods in Brussels to strengthen their skills, attitudes and knowledge so they can fulfill their maximum potential.

Prior to DebateVille, Sophie was pedagogical team manager at ToekomstATELIERdelAvenir (TADA), a weekend school for children from low-income communities. Sophie also launched Teach for Belgium in Flanders and was later head of public and private partnerships. Teach for Belgium is a non-profit working to expand educational opportunity by enlisting talented future leaders to teach for 2 years in high-need areas.

Sophie is a member of the Friday Group, a Belgian policy think tank for young people from various backgrounds financed by the King Baudoin Foundation. She’s also a founding member and ex- curator of the Global Shapers Brussels, the youth branch of the World Economic Forum.

She combines her commitment to social innovation in education with a passion for music, performing in and writing for several music projects.
