Hello fridge friends!
 
Thank you for making April another great month for the community fridges. We know that food inflation rates have had a huge impact on our neighbors – food costs have increased 9.4% in the last year and our friends at Share Food saw 14,000 new individuals at their pantries in January and February. Keeping our community fridges full and welcoming for everyone in South Philly right now is vital.

Because of your generosity, we were able to reimburse 30 fridge fills in the month of April! Our volunteers fill between one and three fridges per reimbursement, in addition to food donated by our community members. We also receive large food donations from grocery partners like South Philly Food Co-Op and Grocery Outlet of Quartermaster Plaza, along with our friends at Share Food Program, Sharing Excess, Food Connect, and NW Mutual Aid. We had a month of full, happy fridges with your help!

In the month of April, we received $1,743 in donations, including proceeds from the sale of merchandise. We spent $1,833. Of our expenditures, $1,520 was spent on directly feeding our neighbors through reimbursed fridge fills, $228 was spent on our annual fee for our Squarespace website and $85 was spent in up-front merchandise costs. 

Besides our amazing donors and monthly supporters, we also were excited to receive funds from local businesses, including Gleaner’s Café and Batter & Crumbs, as well as continued support from our friends at Society Hill Synagogue, who weekly stock our Point Breeze location.

In community news, our volunteers had a blast helping out with a community cooking class at Smith Playground (making sushi!) and we moved forward with opening up our fifth location – a pantry at Mifflin Square Park (which opened in early May).
