Thank you for donating to the South Philly Community Fridges in February!
Published on March 4, 2022 by Kathryn Nolan

36 donors gave $2,438 in the month of February – which is an incredible demonstration of generosity toward all of our neighbors here in South Philly (during the shortest month too, another amazing feat!) We are an entirely volunteer-run, mutual aid group working in solidarity with our neighbors to fill community fridges and pantries at our four locations.

Since we reimburse fridge fills at $50/fridge, that means this funding provided fifty reimbursed fridge fills in February alone. Thank you!

We’ve been working hard to more consistently stock each fridge location twice a day through reimbursed fridge fills. And we know the food goes quickly because our neighbors are in need – rates of food insecurity in the city rose from 14.4% in 2019 to 16.3% in 2021, plus many of our neighbors shop for large families and homebound loved ones.

The great thing about mutual aid is that everyone can fill and/or clean a fridge – there are no formal requirements! But if you are interested in getting more involved with volunteering, we have opportunities available. From driving shifts, to cleaning, to shopping for groceries, there are many different ways to plug in alongside other volunteers in South Philly. Drop us a line at [email protected]

Food is a human right – thanks for all that you’ve done this month to make that a reality for everyone here in South Philly.
