SURJ DC Migrant Justice Team

Ana and her daughter Maria came to the US from Central America and are currently in the asylum process. Maria loves school, sometimes even assigning herself extra homework, and enjoys making art. Ana also gave birth to a baby boy last fall. He was born very premature (about 6 months) but is luckily doing very well. If you're able to help out with baby items, please email [email protected]

Unfortunately, Ana has been battling serious health problems and has undergone multiple major surgeries in the last few month and will need to recover at home for at least the next several months. Most of the funds we raise go to support Ana and her family, covering her monthly rent payments, which totals $1,500, and other necessities as they arise (groceries, clothing, support for Maria's schooling).

SURJ DC has also been assisting Alex, a Central American who was thrilled to receive asylum at the end of 2020. Alex is now supporting their nephew, who is an unaccompanied minor, and is also in the process of applying for their green card. SURJ DC has been helping them complete the necessary steps for their application and helped cover the associated fees.

Finally, SURJ DC has been supporting Enrique, who is from the Caribbean. We have helped him cover immigration paperwork fees and other major costs as requested.
