Solar Fridge In Englewood
Published on September 18, 2022 by Eric Von Haynes

We’re excited to introduce Chicago's first solar-powered community fridge! In partnership with   (@nicole_taryn) of @gettinggrowncollective and Keyante  Aytch. @keyante_h of Sunbend Solar! Watch the introduction to this revolutionary fridge as they and Love Fridge organizers Eric Von Haynes (@manny_suena) and Eric Hotchkiss @flat_erik talk about our mission, our purpose, and our potential when our community comes together and builds sustainable solutions towards food equity.

We are grateful for the relationships with Getting Grown Collective and the Libations to the Ancestors Garden and Keyante Aytch of Sunbend Solar for making this goal happen.

This project was supported via a grant from the Young Leaders Fund (YLF) at the Chicago Community Trust. We look forward to learning from this site and others to create a sustainable system for the fridges.

We're looking forward to filling this fridge with food again. If you'd like to help keep the Englewood and other Southside fridges stocked, please consider signing up for one of our many weekly pickups. There are also additional food rescue opportunities through the Chicago food Sovereignty Coalition (including pickups in Englewood).
