Ripples become waves
Published on January 19, 2026 by Netty Lou
Since Christmas, The Ripple Effect project has continued to grow steadily through community making, collaboration and shared creativity.
We’ve are running relaxed, drop-in making sessions where contributors have been working on individual dress pieces, upcycled denim jackets and textile panels for the dress train. These sessions have been intentionally slow and accessible, allowing people of all skill levels to take part, connect and contribute in their own way.
A few finished pieces have now been returned, each carrying its own story and reflection and more pieces are currently being worked on at home by community members. Donated and recycled materials continue to shape the evolving design of the dress and cape, reinforcing the project’s sustainability focus.
We’ve also expanded community connections by visiting local groups, welcoming new contributors and sharing the project through talks, displays and events. Interest in the project continues to grow, with people joining both as makers and supporters.
The focus for the coming months is continued making, collecting completed pieces, and preparing for the final construction phase ahead of the community celebration and dress unveiling in May.
Thank you to everyone who has supported, contributed and helped keep the ripples moving.
