About
The Ripple Effect is a creative, community led fashion project rooted in a love for the ocean, sustainability and doing things together.
Since August 2025, we’ve been repurposing old fabrics, beads and threads to slowly build an ocean inspired storytelling dress. The project officially began with a screening of David Attenborough’s Ocean documentary at St Martin’s Church in Alfreton, which helped spark conversations, ideas and a shared sense of purpose.
Since then, the project has grown through skill sharing, local workshops and community connections. We’ve been working in and around Alfreton, Derbyshire, inviting individuals and groups to take part in creating an ocean inspired dress that reflects many voices, hands and stories.
We’re now working towards a celebration event in May 2026, where all of this creativity will come together. The finished dress will be unveiled alongside other upcycled garments made by the community, marking a moment to celebrate the journey as much as the outcome.
This page is where funds raised through the project are held and used to support the people who make it possible, including the team, artists and facilitators who contribute their time, skills and care to The Ripple Effect.
