We are going to do a 3-month research project with (up to 24) black and other marginalised staff and workers in Southwark to determine to what extent racism, structural and institutional racism, oppression, and discrimination are considered by HR and Managers when deciding whether or not to discipline or uphold a complaint.
We will also investigate whether it makes a difference to the outcome of a complaints /discipline /capability process if the professionals involved do not share their group identity.
We hope as part of this project to have interviews with 10 x Managers and HR professionals about their experience of managing and disciplining black staff, policies and processes and what support if any they need. We also plan to meet with Union Reps about their experience of working with black staff complaining of racism and discrimination.
