2023 Year-end Update
Published on January 2, 2024 by Genevieve
1. What did you accomplish during 2023? How did you use money?
In 2023, we brought 16 beds and other furniture to 29 movees over 18 moves, which is almost 2 moves per month but slightly less than in 2022.
StorageMart, where we used to have a storage unit, discontinued the program that allowed us to store furniture there for free. After much research, we could not find a cheap enough program to justify continuing storing. This reduced our capacity to pick up items that would not also be delivered on the same day.
The majority of the funds were used to rent moving trucks, gas costs, and lunches for volunteers.
2. What challenges did you face during 2023? What did your Collective learn? How did you change or grow?
In 2023, we have felt continued lower volunteer capacity and difficulty recruiting new folks. However, we're proud that the Moving Support Project is still active. We also learned about and repaired tech issues that will help us receive volunteer interest submissions.
We are also experimenting with videos posted to social media. It has proved more challenging than expected, but the videos are fun: https://www.instagram.com/moving_support_project/
3. What are your plans for 2024? Anything exciting coming up?
After a year-end rest, in 2024 we will continue moving for our formerly unhoused neighbors - there are a lot of people who need furniture! As 2023 comes to a close, we humbly ask for your continued support, whether through time or funding, into the new year.
