2023 What's Update
Published on December 21, 2023 by Claire Kuhn

1. What did you accomplish during 2023? How did you use money?

2023 was an exciting and fun filled year for Turn Down For What NYC. Highlights included a successful 1st Annual Pageant Fundraiser, launching overnight events and establishing an  executive board. In total we hosted 18 events (including 4 overnight events), empowering 28 individuals with Down syndrome. Our total expenses were $13,920.10 with money spent on events, tickets, accommodations, food & beverages, transportation, scholarships and printing.

2. What challenges did you face during 2023? What did your Collective learn? How did you change or grow?

Our biggest challenges in 2023 involved producing larger, overnight social events for our community. Through piloting four different types of overnight events we were able to learn best practices and how to be more successful moving forward. We grew by adding 5 new participants, 31 new supporters and appointing an executive board.

3. What are your plans for 2024? Anything exciting coming up?

While our 2024 schedule is still in the works, we are looking forward to repeating popular events while mixing in some fresh ideas. Our participants can already look forward to Beach Weekend, Adaptive Surfing, a Hamptons Pool Party and lots of karaoke! We are also anticipating more participant lead programming and long weekend programs in 2024! Upcoming events in the new year are a screening of Wonka, Mock Speed Dating with NYC Speed Dating and a World Down Syndrome Day Dance Party.
