Turn Down for What Update: Cheers to 2 Years!
Published on March 17, 2024 by Claire Kuhn

Dear Turn Down for What Supporters,

Cheers to nearly 2 years of TD4W! We truly wouldn’t be here without your kindness and generosity. A huge thank you from our entire crew. 💛💙

Reaching out with a few updates:

Programming
In addition to the monthly meetups and pop ups we’re known for, this year we are launching our 1st Annual Friends Trips! Friends Trips are our pilot long weekend programs for folks in the northeast region. Together, we'll stay in some awesome places and do everything together including cooking, leading workshops, participating in activities and relaxing. Participants will feel empowered as they flex life skills like independence, wellness, creativity and problem-solving while making new connections.

Fundraising
To support the launch of Friends Trips, we are hosting A World Down Syndrome Day Dance Party Fundraiser.  If you can, please join us for the in person event on 3/21 at Somebody’s Darling from 6-10pm. As we scale up by offering long weekend programs we need financial support to cover crucial up front expenses like housing deposits, volunteer background checks, booking group activities and participant scholarships. We hope you’ll consider supporting our fundraising campaign with a $21 donation in honor of World Down Syndrome Day.

Administrative
And finally our fiscal sponsor, Open Collective Foundation, has announced their dissolution so we will be migrating to a new fiscal sponsor, Hack Club Bank. Operating under a fiscal sponsor rather than as an independent nonprofit enables us to focus on the mission and service delivery vs legal and financial administration. Fiscal sponsors work with small non profits like us to provide 501c3 status and assist with banking operations and filing taxes. Moving forward all donations will be processed via our HCB page.

Again, thank you so so much for supporting our small and scrappy nonprofit. We’ve been able to provide a ton of fun and empowerment for our crew over the last two years and are so excited about what’s to come!

With immense gratitude,
Claire
