Under the PuMP - Parenting under Medical Pressure
Fiscal Host: Gift Collective
Practical parenting courses helping parents of medically complex children strengthen connection, communication, confidence, and family life.
About
Parents navigating medical complexity often carry an invisible emotional load alongside the practical realities of caring for their child. Parenting Under Medical Pressure is a space for parents to slow down, feel supported, and rebuild clarity, steadiness, and connection in the middle of uncertainty.
This course is for parents facing chronic childhood illness, medical complexity, long hospital journeys, or the ongoing pressure of advocating for a child whose needs are not always understood or heard.
Together, we explore things like:
- how to advocate for your child when you feel dismissed or unheard
- parenting from values instead of fear or exhaustion
- understanding behaviour, emotions, and connection beneath the surface
- creating a calm, safe atmosphere at home during stressful seasons
- nervous system awareness and simple regulation tools for overwhelmed parents
- balancing the needs of siblings, relationships, and whānau
- building a support system and learning how to let others support you
- reducing guilt, pressure, and decision fatigue
- strengthening confidence in your own parental wisdom
Many parents speak about the loneliness of carrying constant responsibility, the exhaustion of having to fight to be believed, and the fear of getting things wrong. This course offers space for those experiences without judgment or pressure.
The approach is gentle, practical, trauma-informed, and evidence-aware. Research in attachment, nervous system science, and parental stress shows that calm support and emotional steadiness can help parents think more clearly, connect more deeply, and make decisions with greater confidence.
Let's not let them walk this journey alone.
