Please CONTRIBUTE to the printing costs for Portraits, by Maía. We are aiming to raise $1,500 USD to cover the cost of having 250 copies of the book printed locally (in Longmont, Colorado) on beautiful, recycled paper, as well as shipped to contributors of $25 or more. Maía is generously donating all the proceeds from the sale of the book to Cosmos Co-op and our imprint Untimely Books. We plan to offer the book as a gift option for future contributors to our crowdfunding campaign this fall (2023).

About the Book

Portraits is a group of “poem-paintings” of human and more-than-human subjects whose lives and ways have inspired the poet. This volume includes homages to James Baldwin, Thomas Merton, Denise Levertov, Rachel Carson, Barry Lopez, Vincent van Gogh, and other humans, as well as sea sparrows, parrots, mockingbirds, and starling kin… mother ocean, old-man river, spruce groves and kelp… comb jellies, grey gulls, anemones, green crabs, whelks and periwinkles. Maía’s intimate portraits show us how we can see these people and beings who belong to our world in a poetic new light.
