Resist & Build In-Person Gathering

The Resist & Build Summit will host an in-person gathering to bring together key translocal and national organizations working for post-capitalist system change.

Friday, October 20, 2023, 5:30 PM - Sunday, October 22, 2023, 2:00 PM (UTC-05:00)

About

WHAT: Originally planned as a 3-day strategic meeting among U.S.-based solidarity economy organizations at the Highlander Center to respond to a critical historical moment, Resist & Build became a 4-part virtual gathering in the Spring of 2020 in the wake of a global pandemic.

Our goals included articulating a collective position on connecting resist and build efforts, sharpening our analysis of system-change and a post-capitalist framework, and better coordinating and working together, which expanded to include solidarity economy (SE) responses to the pandemic and connections with the largest movement mobilization in U.S. history – the uprisings in defense of Black lives.

WHO: The space is open to any individual working with an organization in the solidarity economy movement, recognizing that this is a space for SE orgs doing work in a trans-local capacity (working across specific geographies, working nationally, coordinating with other groups across various geographies, etc.)

WHEN: Resist and Build from October 20-22, 2023 (recommended arrival - before 5pm October 20).

Kali Akuno will offer a public presentation on the Solidarity Economy on Friday, October 20th at 7pm.

The USSEN Board will convene October 19-20 (recommended arrival for board members - before 6pm Oct 19).

WHERE: Richmond Hill Retreat Center in Richmond, Virginia which has single & double rooms w/some adjoining bathrooms and hosts a maximum capacity of 42.

COST: Our full cost for lodging and meals at this gathering will be ~$300 per person. Some portion of the cost of this gathering is being underwritten by USSEN. We will be launching a fundraising page for individuals and organizations to fund their participation at a level that is comfortable and supports our ability to host these gatherings in the future.

TRAVEL:
Participants need to make their own travel arrangements though we will likely provide shuttle service from nearby airports and train stations to the Retreat Center.
