About
Village Raw is a hyperlocal community magazine that tells the local stories that matter -those of local makers, artists, thinkers, small businesses, food projects, and everyday legends across Crouch End, East Finchley, Highgate, Muswell Hill and nearby postcodes.
Printed locally and created by people in the community, from 2018 Village Raw quickly became a much-loved fixture on coffee tables, shop counters, and library shelves - delivering high-quality journalism, beautiful photography, and a real sense of connection across north London neighbourhoods.
At its heart, Village Raw was a quiet but powerful engine for localisation. In an age of algorithms and generic content, it turned the spotlight onto the real-life stories, skills and spirit within walking distance. We helped people find their neighbours - artists, chefs, organisers, thinkers - who were often just a few streets away. Businesses found new customers. Collaborators found each other. A sense of place deepened.
By linking postcodes and perspectives, the magazine created a shared cultural ecosystem - one grounded in mutual support, local spending, creative exchange, and pride in where we live. It encouraged people to stay curious about their surroundings, to back their community, and to believe that what’s happening right here, right now, is just as vital and beautiful as anything on the global stage. With the Covid-19 lockdowns and economic downturn, the magazine closed.
Now, we want to bring it back.
We’re relaunching Village Raw 2.0 and need your help to do it. Each issue costs an amount to produce, print and distribute and we’d love to get to the point where we can start the ball rolling on VR2.0 with a new printed issue. This can happen through individual donations, as well as business donations, ads or subscriptions.
Village Raw isn’t just a magazine - it’s a platform for collaboration, creativity, and community and this is your invitation to help make it happen again.
