Who We are -
Published on April 6, 2023 by lisa mckenzie

We are a small group but hopefully a growing group of working class creative people with a passion and a political will to tell the stories of the Working Class in our own voices and in our own way we began the collective and came together in the Lockdown period of 2020 to publish a book - where 43 working class people had sent in their diaries to us of their experiences of the early lockdown. Please see and read the links below which all outline the Lockdown diaries of the Working Class;

THE WORKING CLASS COLLECTIVE

We are a small group of working-class people who have recognised through our own life experiences that, to be working-class in Britain means we are in a position of ‘lack.’We lack the networks, the resources, the know-how, and sometimes the confidence to engage with places, spaces and people in the institutions of publishing, academia, NGOs, the creative industries and any other ‘official space’ which actively keeps us out.Working-Class people are black, white and brown, we are of every gender and none if we want to be, we are able-bodied and also disabled, we are Jewish, Christians, Muslims, Sikhs, and Atheists – sometimes we are Jedi’s, and Witches: but one thing is for certain, ‘The Working Class Collective’ is for all that know and feel they are working-class - and also for those who ally with us.We aim to create a platform for working-class creative people and those that also believe and want to work with us on ensuring that working-class stories are being told by working-class people and respected by wider and connected industries.
