Grant #143102 to Youth Climate Fund

 

The requested funds will be used to fund the creation of a movement called "Nature Allies: Empowering Seattle Communities for Climate Action" that encourages Seattle's communities to take climate action into their own hands, fostering a culture of sustainability and resilience that will benefit both the present and future generations through  the Nature Allies campaign that aims to mobilize and empower Seattle's youth to address the challenges posed by climate change, particularly the increases in average annual and seasonal temperatures, flooding, extreme heat events, and heavy rainfall. By leveraging the power of nature, this youth-led initiative seeks to inspire and support community-led climate actions throughout the city.

Climate change is an urgent global crisis that demands immediate action. Nowhere is this more evident than in the beautiful city of Seattle, Washington. As the average annual and seasonal temperatures rise, the frequency of flooding, extreme heat events, and heavy rainfall intensifies, posing significant challenges to the well-being and resilience of our communities. In the face of these challenges, it is imperative that we come together and take action to protect our environment and safeguard the future for generations to come.

We, the Nature Allies, are a passionate group of young individuals committed to addressing the climate crisis head-on. We believe that by harnessing the power of nature, we can inspire and empower Seattle's communities to lead the charge towards a more sustainable and resilient future. With this vision in mind, we humbly request funding for our project, "Nature Allies: Empowering Seattle Communities for Climate Action."

Below is a set of objectives  and a  comprehensive set of strategies developed by our group for the success of the project in the targeted communities ;

b) Nature-Based Solutions:

i. Green Infrastructure and Urban Forests: Promote the creation and maintenance of green spaces, urban forests, and community gardens to mitigate the urban heat island effect, reduce flooding, and improve air quality.

ii. Rainwater Harvesting and Permeable Surfaces: Encourage the installation of rainwater harvesting systems and permeable surfaces to reduce stormwater runoff and flooding.

iii. Community Gardens and Urban Farming: Support the establishment of community gardens and urban farms to promote local food production, improve food security, and sequester carbon.

c) Awareness and Communication:

i. Public Campaigns and Events: Organize awareness campaigns, public forums, and events to educate the community about the benefits of nature-based solutions and inspire action.

ii. Social Media and Online Platforms: Utilize social media platforms, websites, and online resources to disseminate information, share success stories, and engage with the community.

iii. Collaborate with Local Media: Partner with local media outlets to amplify the campaign's message and showcase community-led climate action initiatives.

d) Collaboration and Partnerships:

i. Engage Local Organizations: Collaborate with environmental organizations, nonprofits, and community groups working on climate change and environmental issues to leverage their expertise and resources.

ii. Partner with Schools and Universities: Forge partnerships with educational institutions to integrate climate change and nature-based solutions into the curriculum and encourage student participation.

iii. Work with Local Government: Advocate for policies and initiatives that prioritize nature-based solutions, climate resilience, and community-led climate action.
