A 2022 winter solstice update
Published on December 21, 2022 by Daphne

The Youngstown Action Center is excited to soft launch our space tomorrow (Dec 22) at a winter solstice party -- all are invited (6pm-10pm). Starting in January we will be open more regularly, starting with our May Day planning meeting January 11th (6:30pm - come plan with us!).

We've been working towards getting a space for more than a year and have been working with our landlords on 107 Park since July of this year, and we are happy to finally be able to open the doors for the first floor of the building for meetings and events -- hopefully the second and third floors will be ready by spring! It has been a bit of a challenge getting the place ready as the building had been unused for quite some time and needed significant repairs to get it into shape. We have been putting in a lot of time cleaning and preparing the space and are pleased that it is starting to feel like a good movement home. The first floor features a large area that can seat about 30 people, a small kitchen, an office space (which will house a movement tool library) and a restroom. The building is accessible by ramp.

We are currently working on all of our community agreements and protocols for the space, and learning together how to put our radical and progressive ideas into praxis in building a safe space that is accessible and welcoming to all. We're also building our coalition of people and groups that will use the space and may want to call it home for co-working and office space.

For 2023, we look forward to creating events, hosting events, and opening the space for meetings and other gatherings. We'll also be putting together our radical library, which will open for the public shortly after we get the second floor up in running. We look forward to a year of great organizing and good camaraderie at the YAC, and thank you for supporting us!
