Zero Waste Cafe Pop Up

PROJECT

We are creating a pop up Zero Waste Cafe to help us raise awareness, educate on sustainability and increase access to plant based food via a local food network.

About

We are a zero waste initiative.  We want to create a pop up cafe to reach more of our community, raise awareness, educate on sustainability and promote access to plant based food.  We prioritise on inspiring, motivating and educating women and girls to act for climate change, to enable them to lead their own sustainable lives.

The project will run long term and develop as more women join as members.  The initial start-up and establishing will take one year. We respond positively to our cooperative members and develop our offerings via their needs and ideas.  So how we run it will adapt and change during this time.  Such as suggested idea was to run a Soup Café - We will host events that enable us to teach and demonstrate how to cook simply using surplus food that otherwise would have gone to landfill to prepare and cook their own meals using our recipe cards.  We will offer our community chance to be part of a community written recipe book.

The pop up will be a horse box catering unit or trailer with kitchen and food storage that could be moved from site to site, attending festivals and events across the region and at our community food coop venues. We want our offering as off-grid, demonstrating how this can be done, living more sustainably and adapting this for family life.

As part of our series of offerings we will host talks, workshops and demonstrations with sustainable food living tips, how to set up your own food coop, how to live a sustainable life. We would hope to offer mini screenings of environmental documentaries and nature-based activities.

We will promote by providing regular updates through articles in local newspapers, via social media and local conversations to promote events via radio stations.

We plan to create a local food network to partner with local food growers, purchasing food at discount prices from them to distribute to local families via our pop up events.

We will approach local allotments or urban farm schemes, volunteer our time to learn about the process of farming and growing food, help those processes and showcase the food and those working relationships within our Zero Waste cafe events.
