About
Art Based Resistance to Statelessness through Miya Poetry and Community Media is a collective of poets, filmmakers, artists, singers and journalists from the Miya community of Assam which is one of the most marginalized communities and directly affected by discriminatory citizenship laws of India. Also, this collective collaborates with creative people from other marginalized communities of the state. This collective has been formed to create resistance to statelessness through arts, films, songs, poetry and community gathering to effectively address the issues related to citizenship crisis.
This collective is run by persons directly affected by discriminatory citizenship laws of India and dedicatedly work around the Char-chaporis (River island and embankments) of Assam which is one of the most vulnerable geographic areas of Assam. The collective primarily aims to highlight the issues of citizenship crisis, systemic and structural injustice faced by the Miya community of Assam through visual and cultural expression. Engaging different mediums such as film, photography, art installations, songs and poetry performances the collective will bring out the stories of detention, state violence and harassment, displacement, etc.
