More info: Like many groups in the Solidarity Economy movement, we are a collective without a bank account or formal legal status. We do have rigorous policies and group agreements, but we are not incorporated formally as a co-op or non-profit (yet). In order to receive charitable donations, we ask an existing non-profit organization to lend us their legal status and bank account. This is called “fiscal sponsorship” and is very common for groups and individual artists at this time. From 2021-2023, the non-profit that supported us was Open Collective Foundation.
Today, we are working with Movement Strategy Center because they are a trusted partner in the Solidarity Economy Movement, they are led by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color staff and support BIPOC-led groups, and because they will actively work with us to resource aligned arts and culture groups in the Solidarity Economy! We did extensive research to find a fiscal sponsor, and we are happy to share it here.
