About

BackSlash Linux is a Linux based Operating System and an Open Source Project which is one of the few Operating Systems built in India (Another one is BOSS Linux built by CDAC). The Software is completely free and is available for any computer running a 64-bit CPU (Generally, computers manufactured after 2003-2004 should be fine).

The basic aim is to make and promote the use of free and open source software (FOSS) in India which would be a leap though for the Indian audience which generally uses Windows. The system, being run on Linux Kernel, is also more secure and reliable and comes with a lot of beginner friendly programs pre-installed and an easy learning curve to maximise the user experience. Also, unlike Windows, BackSlash Linux does not track, record, analyse or sell the data of its users and focuses on the ultimate privacy. Also, we understand that when you migrate from Windows, you might miss some of your favourite programs which are only available on Windows; to compensate that, BackSlash Linux ships with a wrapper called Wine which enables users to install Windows programs on BackSlash Linux like a charm – just as they used to do on Windows (a double click).

BackSlash Linux, though developed only for the betterment of software in India and across the world, is totally non-funded and does not seek any kind of monetary engagements with its users unless they wish to donate themselves for the resources of the project.

BackSlash Linux is being built since 2016 and has come to a very stable stage without any kind of financial support and has reached landmarks and certainly is leaving a mark on the world! As we all know, software development needs money and resources, and so does BackSlash! Let's come together to build a software which makes a dent in the universe!
