Fundraising and the Solidarity Economy
Published on April 6, 2022 by hannah mayree

We are excited to share with you all, our progress as we develop our programs, structure and strategies!

2022 is a big lift for us as an organization that still in the preliminary stages of transitioning to cooperative organization. This year is unique because while our capacity to actually do the work of fundraising is low, the need to economically support the work of African-American cultural thinkers and workers is more important than ever.

It was through considering the principles of Solidarity Economy that the BBRP Community Support Team was born!
Accountability & Relationship
Resources & Shared Vision
Liberation Culture
Democracy & Process
Education & Leadership Development

After an ask was made through instagram, a small group of folks stepped forward to support our work through fundraising for our upcoming projects this year! We have had a great experience so far hosting 2 stand alone sessions for the purpose of expanding our networks of support and continue to invite collaboration from folks who feel called to this work!

We hosted 2 gatherings via zoom-- the first was an invitation to work with facilitators from the BBRP to hold space for the deep and challenging work of addressing, disrupting and healing white supremacy and other patterns of racism through our work with the banjo.  This is an important step for us in relationship and trust building.

This recording attached here is the second session we held which focused on fundraising and the ways that folks, particularly white people involved in benefitting or profiting in the world of banjo, can be in a process of accountability and healing with and through the work of the Black Banjo Reclamation Project.

You are welcome to view the session recorded March 18th 2022, the information regarding the video is listed below.

"The Black Banjo Reclamation Project is an ongoing community and land-based development that focuses on the cultural folk traditions of the Banjo in relation to Black and African Diasporic and Indigenous communities. The BBRP was founded in 2018 and has been growing the movement toward banjo reparations and self-determination ever since.

As the project has grown, we have made mile-stones such as becoming fiscally hosted by Open Collective Foundation. We are expanding our fundraising efforts in 2022 by inviting members of our community to help us raise funds-- using principles of wealth redistribution, repairing social and historical harm and the solidarity economy.(https://solidarityeconomyprinciples.org)

This seminar was recorded for educational purposes and held March 18th 2022 via zoom.
