Hello Friends!
We are welcoming in the Fall season with a lot of excitement and gratitude.
There are a few Bay Area events that we would like to share with you all and we all have big news to share regarding our next cohort of Black Banjo Builders! We are so glad to have your support and to share what we have been working toward which is emerging NOW!
Sunday October 1st we are hosting a Song Share Circle and Musical Jam Event at the Mahea Uchiyama International Center for Dance in Berkeley CA
Details: Join us October 1st at the @mahealaniuchiyama international Dance Center for a Song Share & Music Circle hosted by the @black.banjo.reclamation project! We thrive when we gather with community. It’s been a little while since our last music gathering but we are welcoming the fall by hosting one! Is there a song you want to share and or invite folks to sing/play with you?? There’s so much joy in releasing our musical creations and ideas to each other not just through performance but through holding a vulnerable space with one another. A capella or with musical accompaniment, come share and learn songs with us, simple is perfect, words, no words, English or not, it’ll be really sweet. We hold a sacred space for Black folks so come early at 5 pm if that’s you! All are welcome for the potluck at 6:30 and as we continue music til 8. Bring a dish and an open mind! Banjo music is tied to so many genres and song traditions and we hold an accessible space to lend an ear and use our voices to sing and feel liberation in these moments both large and small. With lots of gratitude. Donations can always be made through the homepage of the link in our bio🙏🏽✊🏾🙌🏽🪕💦🌍🥰🎉⭐️🦋🌸🌈🕷🎶

October 14th BBRP Nashville Banjo Building Workshop & Gourdfest
Details: For several months, members of the BBRP core team have been working in collaboration with Black artists, crafters, and music based organizations to bring our next round of banjo building cohorts to a new location, Nashville, Tennessee! We have assembled a small and mighty group of folks which includes Black cultural workers from around the country and we are getting ready for a 3 day build workshop! We are grateful to the support of Pisgah Banjos and the Arnold Shultz fund for supporting this project! This exciting build event overlaps with Gourdfest which is celebrating music and agriculture so we are thrilled to be present for the growth of these intentions to invest in Black luthiership and celebrate the connection between music and our earth. The build event is private and we will have a whole blog dedicated to sharing that with you all. This investment in Black luthiership opens up many doors and opportunities for us to continue offering banjo building instruction and makes sure that the knowledge is in the hands of African Diasporic artists from a diverse range of backgrounds. We look forward to sharing more! Gourdfest is open to folks who want to join in the Nashville area! Check it out and join the festivities!
