About
π Board Gaymes Liverpool π²
Our mission is to build community and resilience for queer and trans folks in Liverpool. The hostility of the UK government and media towards trans people can be an isolating force. We are combatting this by helping queer and trans people build local connections, networks, and friends to strengthen and uplift them. We meet in Lovelocks Coffee Shop, a socialist and queer venue in the centre of Liverpool, which is wheelchair accessible.
π Ethos ποΈ
We believe that trans folks and the wider LGBTQIA+ community are one community and should stand together. Our board game night is open to all members of the queer community and our allies. We are trans-led. We welcome and include people of many different intersecting identities. Where a fee is charged, all our events will reserve free tickets for those in need. While we are not specifically anti-alcohol, we meet in a dry space out of recognition that many queer spaces can be orientated around drinking and we would like to be an alternative.
π History π³οΈββ§οΈ
We held our first event in September 2023, responding to Trans Pride Liverpool's call for the community to organise satellite events. We picked a board games night, as games provide the perfect focal point to break the ice between strangers and are a lot of fun! The event proved to be so popular, that we went on to hold a Christmas event and then several more games nights throughout 2024, including one in Birkenhead. Our first event was funded by the University of Liverpool and by the UoL branch of the University and College Union. Our subsequent events have been funded by ticket sales.
π Fundraising π°
In our second year, we are looking to run board game nights more frequently, branch out in the type of events we run, and produce some swag! Funds raised will help us price our events accessibly.
