Supply give to the homeless camp behind Gus Garcia community center
Published on March 30, 2022 by Carol Rabun

Carol's-kindness is starting a new mission.  Since prop B passed in the city of Austin to not allow camping in open spaces/state and local property, the city has been doing"sweeps" of the camps.  The people are given notice that their camp will be cleaned up on a certain date.  When that day comes anything left behind is scooped up and put in the dumpster.  People usually leave with a grocery basket filled with their belongings.  Tents, sleeping bags, barbecue grills and essential are left behind.  The lucky ones find camp sites off public right aways.  Some just have a sleeping bag and sleep wherever they are at night time.  Ditch,  drain culvert, sidewalk, up in trees.
The rest of my grant will go to buying needed supplies. Tents, sleeping bag, bbq grill, popups. Maybe a generator and car batteries.  They use the batteries to power small things.    We donated our gazebo and popups for our food pantry when we bought a carport to replace them.
