Cross Neighborhood Solidarity Fund

This fundraising campaign is in alignment with the Chicagoland Food Sovereignty Coalition (CFSC) to direct financial support to the mutual aid groups most in need; primarily those on the South and West sides of the city, and in South and West Cook County. In distributing funds, we seek to distribute funds equitably in response to: 1) the magnitude of need 2) prioritizing BIPOC led, BIPOC centered groups, especially those operating in food deserts 3) the amount of area covered by each group

(Full description)

This fundraising campaign is in alignment with the food security coalition that arose organically from city-wide mutual aid efforts, to direct financial support to the mutual aid groups most in need; primarily those on the South and West sides of the city, and in South and West Cook County.

In these geographies, Black and Brown communities have been divested from and thrown into a deadly and economically devastating pandemic. While we should all be focusing on our collective health and safety, across the country Black people are facing racialized violence, murder, and oppression at the hands of the police.

Now more than ever we need to stand in solidarity, support one another and put our resources where they are most needed.

That’s where mutual aid comes in.

The first round of funds brought in by this fundraiser (from June and July of 2020) were distributed between mutual aid efforts in Woodlawn, Bronzeville / Kenwood, Hyde Park, Pilsen, Cicero / Berwyn, and South Cook County, with collaboration between these groups in determining how funds were distributed. The second round of funding distribution will be going to mutual aid groups most in need, as determined by the (informally named) citywide mutual aid food security coalition.

In distributing funds, we seek to distribute funds equitably in response to:

1) the magnitude of need

2) prioritizing BIPOC led, BIPOC centered groups, especially those operating in food deserts

3) the amount of area covered by each group

All of these groups are volunteer-run, so your donation will not be going towards overhead costs as it would be if you were giving to a non-profit. Your donation will go directly towards things like groceries, masks and other PPE, baby care + eldercare kits, cleaning supplies, and whatever else is needed on the ground.
