About
Chainlit is an open-source Python framework for building chatbot and agent UIs. It lets developers go from prototype to production with features like multi-step reasoning visualization, streaming, human-in-the-loop workflows, and integrations with LangChain, OpenAI, and other major LLM providers — all with minimal code.
Since its creation by Willy Douhard, Chainlit has grown to nearly 12,000 GitHub stars, 1,600+ forks, and an active Discord community. It's used by developers, startups, and enterprises worldwide to power internal tools, customer-facing chatbots, and AI agent interfaces.
As of May 2025, Chainlit is fully community-maintained. The original team at Chainlit SAS stepped back from active development, and a group of volunteer maintainers now handles code review, releases, security, and roadmap decisions. We do this because we believe Chainlit is critical infrastructure for the conversational AI ecosystem and deserves continued, high-quality stewardship.
What your support covers:
- Infrastructure costs — CI/CD, hosting, testing environments
- Maintainer time — Triaging issues, reviewing PRs, cutting releases, and fixing security vulnerabilities
- Community support — Keeping documentation current and helping users on Discord
- Long-term sustainability — Ensuring Chainlit remains actively maintained and doesn't fall into abandonment
Every contribution, no matter the size, helps keep Chainlit alive and improving for the thousands of developers who depend on it.
