About
We are a group of volunteers, centred in Chalkhill, who help those who need it in our local area, by putting together food parcels of essential items and delivering them on a fortnightly basis. Some of the people who we support have difficulty getting out the house, due to shielding or other health conditions, and being able to have food delivered to them when they are unable to go out themselves, as well as just having a friendly conversation with our volunteers, really helps them out and takes a bit of the weight off their shoulders. We would really appreciate your help and contribution so we can continue to support the community, in Chalkhill and further on, throughout the crisis.
Our project first started off with one of our steering group members supporting families throughout Ramadan by providing food parcels. As the pandemic went on, individuals and families continued to be affected. With more and more income-earners being made redundant, we realised we needed to get more organised and increase our reach, and so, we started Chalkhill Food Support.
The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all of our lives, but if there was one positive thing to come of it, it is how our communities have come together. Mutual Aid groups across the country have shown just how much we’re all willing to support each other. Through our own local Barnhill Mutual Aid Group, it became clear that we need to find a better way to support people who are on low income, or who generally might need a helping hand. We hope you can join us in providing this support.
