About
The Centre for Human Ecology celebrates its 50th Anniversary in 2022, and to commemorate this landmark we are delighted to announce two events on the 8th of October at the Pearce Institute in Govan, Glasgow:
Symposium - 50 years of Radical Human Ecology
10:30am - 5pm, Billiard Room
with Alastair McIntosh, Alex South, Erin and Emir Devlin, Hanna Tuulikki, Iain MacKinnon, Marie-Angel Chevrier, Jude Lally, Lusi Alderslowe, Mairi McFadyen, Nerea Bello, Nick Wilding, Richard Roberts, Ulrich Loening, Verene Nicolas and others
Since its birth in 1972 at the flowering of the contemporary ecological movement- the same year the Club of Rome published ‘Limits to Growth’- the Centre for Human Ecology has been shining a light on the interactions between social, cultural and ecological systems, including warning of the impacts of human activity on the climate, economic inequality, and the Earth’s carrying capacity. An international network of graduates, members and fellows make ongoing contributions in a number of diverse fields.
In our 50th year, this Symposium will be an opportunity to reflect on our heritage, and the present and future of human ecology in Scotland and internationally.

Ceilidh - 50 Years of CHE
6pm - 10pm, Macleod Hall
Come join us at our ceilidh, organised by the Ceilidh Collective and hosted by Tara O'Leary (CHE Fellow) as we burl into our next chapter.
We have a wonderful band in Hud Yer Wheesht, a light supper and snacks, a few festive words and lots of chance to connect and discover old and new friends and colleagues from across the decades.
There will be a licensed bar from the ceilidh collective with a range of local and organic wines, beers, soft drinks, and single malts.
Please choose the price point according to what you can afford; the higher price helps subside our concession rates. Thank you.
