Micro lavender garden maintenance and stray cat care!
Published on July 12, 2023 by Kirsty Harper

Today the walled garden was maintained by weeding it both within the garden and on the other side that meets the pavement.  The maintenance of the garden could be considered as important as the planting, especially as it is in a residential area.  A starving cat was fed and a neighbour stopped by and we had a conversation about the stray cats in the area.  He informed me that he tries to feed them to make sure they don't go hungry. There is also a spot behind the walled garden on the green where food for strays is put sometimes. It is a nice thought that the cats may feel they have a safe haven in the neighbourhood - or two places  to go when hungry.

Lavender is very popular with bees. I have on mine bumble bees, white tailed and orange tailed  . Not colour prejudiced, they get on fine. And they need urban gardens. On a country walk through fields of barley we realised there were no bees, and no birds.

Indeed. I made a similar observation when I was in the countryside. Yes, they do, I think they can be so valuable to the bees.  I think we have the capacity to create these little gardens in urban areas for them which can be a vital resource. I am glad you have bees too and they all get on together too.
