Code & Coffee Collective - Annual Update (2023)
Published on December 22, 2023 by steven chen
1. What did you accomplish during 2023? How did you use money?
a) LOTS of events happened on meetup. At least 300 (including speaking features) as a rough estimate.
b) Branding t-shirts, small supplies that equal massive savings like coffee maker urns in Boston & DC, nametag station in NYC, and expensed trips to NYC.
2. What challenges did you face during 2023? What did your Collective learn? How did you change or grow?
a) In NYC and many chapters, our tech venue sponsors would suddenly be unable to host due to re-org or hitting capacity.
b) Nationally, we truly started to understand our impact on our local tech communities. Many have collaborated with a local coalition or non-profit tech hub.
c) I learned that every chapter comes across solvable barriers, many with the same solution. Especially venues!
Many C&Cs had the same sponsor at one point:
- Capital One Cafe for Austin & Seattle.
- Improving Consulting for Houston & St Louis.
- The local libraries for DC and Ventura are just a few.
3. What are your plans for 2024? Anything exciting coming up?
Things I'm excited about:
- NYC Hackathon.
- Sponsorships with local colleges for Boston and MoCo.
- codeandcoffee.org/chapters page on the website.
- More standardized community artifacts (prospectus template, coffee setup, chapter page, website template) in Notion.
- Quarterly cross-chapter collaborative chats.
- Results from the Committed Coders experiment.
- + many more
