About
Open IATI and IATI Studio are two closely linked projects launched by the Partnership on Generative AI for Humanitarian Applications and the Humanitarian AI meetup community.
Open IATI studies how IATI data can be used by machine learning models and how emerging AI applications operating at scale can plug into IATI data sources.
IATI Studio concentrates on helping nonprofits and their supporters get acquainted with IATI, publish their first IATI XML files and curate their digital information streams exposed to AI powered applications and emerging intelligent digital assistants.
IATI is an open data sharing framework managed by the International Aid Transparency Initiative that's widely used across the humanitarian community by organizations and donors to make granular information on aid activities, transactions and results more transparent and accessible to machine applications.
IATI data is formatted in highly structured XML code which is ideally suited for use by AI applications. Organizations can convert information on aid activities into XML on their own or use tools like IATI’s new IATI Publisher or third-party applications like Aid Stream. But work is needed to introduce IATI to more organizations and help them better leverage IATI information fields. Likewise, work is needed to develop and train machine learning models able to optimally traverse these fields and make sense of millions of cross-connecting relationships linking organizations, donors, aid activities, transactions and results. These are needs that Open IATI and IATI Studio address.
