About

Kintyre Weigh Zero Waste Shop:
Crowdfunder finished! (though you can still donate if you like):
Woohoo, £440 raised! Thank you so much everyone.
plus donations in kind, see below

(just skip to the DONATE buttons at the bottom if you wish)

Dear Kintyre folks, and friends of our shop further afield...

We had always planned, when we got to crowdfunding, to give you a a really exciting thing to help us raise money for. Problem is, all that stuff (dispensers, shelving, plumbing, joinery, stock, scales, card machine…) was the stuff we have just about got covered, thanks to our grants/loans.

What we need right now to cover pretty much all falls into the thrilling category of… misc. Miscellanous. All the bits and bobs that don’t cost much by themselves, but we can’t do without them, and when we have to them pay for quite a lot of them all at once, they really do add up.

And we don’t want to let Misc eat into our first stock order budget, as it’s otherwise going to do. As it is, as soon as we have a little income in, we hope to use it to offer more stock options than we’ll be able to have in the shop on day one.

May we ask you to really use your imagination and be inspired enough by our Misc shopping list to help us pay for it?

Here are some of the things we still need to obtain, and no doubt we’ll keep suddenly remembering more as we notice we don’t have them:

...white tack, paper tape, pens, pencils, fire/smoke alarms, teatowels, more glass jars, more tins, more containers, more shelves, lots of big bulldog clips, drip trays, stationery, bar stools (our counter turns out to be too high for chairs), draft curtain (and rings and rail), more shelves, oilcloth, aprons, first aid kit, chalk pens, labels, tongs, food storage crates, drum trolley, coat hooks, volunteers health & safety training, blackboard paint, bus tickets (usually £17-21 a week), vacuum cleaner (with very good suction for those sneaky rice grains that lodge in cracks), silicon pot holder mitt (the hygenic way to grab loose spaghetti), Torrisdale Hogwash (alcohol hand spray for customers)...

Alternatively, do feel free to pop into the shop with any excess of the above that you happen to have, in lieu of a financial donation. We’ll be just as grateful.

Donations in kind received already - thank you so much!
Multiple bottles of food-grade disinfectant from the Ashbank Hotel
A dehumidifer from Rhona and Malcolm Elder
A kettle from Lea
Table & chairs, & loan of dust sheets, from Sarah

If we get all the initial expenses sorted (which would be amazing), your donations will go towards expanding our range for you, ideally (loose tea & coffee is our next aim), or the bills to keep the shop running if need be. Bills (a little bit scary in these challenging economic times) include:

...rent, insurance, water, electricity, cleaning products, card terminal fees, internet, bank charges, carrier fees, 50% business premises rates from before the shop was ready to open (luckily there's a local rebate after we open), accountant fees (unless any volunteers?!)...

Why we are using Open Collective?

We've opted to use Open Collective, instead of other fundraising platforms you may be more used to. This is for a few reasons - one is that we really like their values; they chime with our own. Another is their transparency: you'll be able to see exactly what we are spending your donations on, as we'll log them all here. Also, we can use this platform on an ongoing basis. Have a look at some of the other fab projects that are happening with the Open Collective network. What's more, they don't charge us a penny.

Can you donate?

As you’ll see, you have a couple of donation options below. There are various one-off options, because the bulk of Misc won’t have to be bought again any time soon, by which time we should have some income. And you don't have to use a figure we've picked, you can donate whatever amount you choose.

However, you also have the option of setting up a regular monthly donation of whatever amount, which would be really wonderful if your budget is up to it. Even a regular £1 or £2 a month will help us be sustainable, and it will also be clear evidence of community support, which will assist us to access other resources further down the line.

We have gone just with the bank transfer option (instead of card payments this time) as it means there are no costs taken out of your donation whatsoever. Don't worry, it's made really easy - just choose your button to click on below.

IMPORTANT: Open Collective adds an OPTIONAL contribution to their hosting of us, as you set up your payment, eg 45p onto your £3. You can alter or REMOVE this by clicking on "no thank you" on the menu beside "thank you for your contribution".

If you have any questions or problems, please do email us on [email protected]

A very big THANK YOU to you for whatever support you can offer :)

(PS We're a social enterprise - these chaps can remind you what one is, if you like. We won't be making any personal profit, and we're starting initially as volunteers as well.)
