Privacy Workshop - intro

1 hour privacy workshop - group session for Android phone users and basic privacy protection using encrypted apps.

In this workshop you will learn about some apps that can protect your privacy. Basic steps to install and setup some apps will be discussed, but no hands-on installation will be covered. Links to guides and more detailed information on some privacy protecting software/apps will be provided along with membership to a group chat for ongoing volunteer support. The playing field of privacy protection is often a cat and mouse game where we must learn new tactics and tools to preserve our privacy, as we educate each other.

Members of Agaric.coop and CommunityBridge are building some workshops to introduce some alternative tools that work well for many people. These tools also help people preserve their privacy. We have created a survey to determine what tools are most important to you. All responses are anonymous and not linked to you in any way.

The tools we use every day can make life easy or add stress to our workload. They can also lead to issues that allow your personal information to be accessed by others... Some tools provide a way for us to be surveilled, and they provide a trail of information that can be used to track our movements and who we connect with. Big tech corporations make it easy for you to be targeted by authorities, and personal data is being used in courts to convict people based on their interactions online.

Using free software is the best way to protect your privacy and your friends' privacy. We would like to know what tools are important for you to use in your daily work and interactions with friends and workmates.

What tools are you interested in learning more about?

All the tools we will introduce provide a safer way to connect with others and are not part of Google or any big tech corporation.

You can see some of the tools that Agaric Technology Collective uses in our blog:
